Jaipur, 10th June, 2016: India’s leading research institute the Indian Institute of Health Management Research- IIHMR University Jaipur conducted a Symposium on Rural Management today. The Symposium was addressed by the guest speaker Mr. Varun Sharma, Program Coordinator, Aravali (an autonomous society under the Govt.  of Rajasthan.)Participants from various states such as Maharashtra, M.P, U.P & Panjab, Orrisa, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Kerala attended the symposium.

Dr. Goutam Sadhu, Dean School of Rural Management, IIHMR University said, “We at IIHMR University, Jaipur believe in building capacities that will enhance and develop the economy on the whole. The IIHMR University has engaged in various policy and programme management as well. The Symposium on Rural Management was conducted to create awareness on various career opportunities that are available for Rural Managers in the country. The IIHMR University  is the first of its kind in India, with attention solely focused on health systems management. The institution has been recognized by the Department of Science & Technology, Ministry of Finance and Government of India as a Research Institution. The IIHMR University has been designated as National Key Resource Centre (KRC) – Sanitation, from Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation  Government of India in 2014. It has also created and implemented a model for toilets in 370 villages creating awareness on privacy of girls and women through separate sanitation facilities.”

Mr. Varun Sharma, the guest speaker at the Symposium on Rural Management and Programme Coordinator, at Aravali an Autonomous Society under the Government of Rajasthan, said, “The Rural Development and the rural landscape is changing and  expanding. In the state of Rajasthan we have over 391 schemes which focus on Rural Development alone and are individual beneficiary schemes. The Government of Rajasthan has also been developing larger livelihood development programmes under Rajasthan Rural Livelihood Programme. The government has sanctioned budgets which are slowly getting utilized through the NAREGA and Livelihood Mission. NAREGA is also focusing on more sustainable work to increase the asset base of the Rural Community. We also need to understand that there is a rise in occupation based diseases such as silicosis which affects people who work in mines. Over 3000 people are affected in the last 4 years and the state government has initiated a huge help by establishing a Pneumopisis board which helps to diagnose people affected by occupational diseases. Such options have created better opportunities for Rural Managers today.”

Mr. Varun also said that “There is a rising need of Human Resource in the state today. With this the Government has also initiated a various schemes such as ‘Young Professional Guiding Programme’, The Prime Ministers Fellowship Programme and many more which will help the upcoming talent pool to enhance their skill sets and prove to be better managers in developing the rural communities of our country.”
The IIHMR University has consolidated its focus on research in health policy and programme management since its inception. The IIHMR University is the first institution that has started offering management programs in the healthcare sector and has graduated over 1500 students since it’s establishment. The IIHMR University has over 500 plus research policies and studies in programme management and evaluation.
The IIHMR University has been appointed recently by the Government of India to conduct the NFHS4 survey in Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand. They have also been chosen as one of the agency to conduct the civil Birth Registration Survey to achieve Universal or 100% registrations across the nation.
IIHMR University is working as a WHO Collaborating Centre for District Health Systems and designated as an Institute of Excellence by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has played a major role in promoting and conducting health policy and program management research. The IIHMR University School of Rural Management offers an MBA Rural Management programme of 2 years at the IIHMR University, Jaipur. Symposium was coordinated by Ms. Ratna, Asst. Professor & Co-coordinator Mr. Deepak Yogi, Asst professor at the IIHMR University.
