This time, Boxing legend Mary Kom unveiled ‘Run for Happy schools’ theme for BMM

·       The run will take place on December 10, 2016, at KTPO, Whitefield, Bangalore

India 22 November 2016: Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor recently on 15th November 2016, announced the much-awaited X edition of the only midnight marathon in India, the ‘Bengaluru Midnight Marathon 2016’ (BMM) which stands testament to the undying spirit of Bangalore. The Race is scheduled on December 10, 2016 at the Karnataka Trade Promotion Organization (KTPO) venue in Whitefield.

Boxing legend Mary Kom, was announced as the Event Ambassador for the X edition of BMM 2016.  In the Press Meet, held to announce the event, Mary unveiled the theme for this year “Run for Happy Schools”. The funds raised from BMM will be used for the infrstructure development, education and hygiene of 7 government schools, impacting more than 4000 students.

The online registration for the individual events of BMM 2016 is open and participants can register online by logging onto http://www.midnightmarathon.in. The key events on December 10 – 11, 2016 will include Full Marathon, Ola Half Marathon, Open 10k Run, and 5k IT City Fun Run. Pet-a-thon will be held on November 27, 2016.
·      Online Registrations for the Half and Full Marathon, as well as the Open 10k Run will close at midnight on December 05, 2016
·      Online Registration for 5k IT City Fun Run will close at midnight on December 9, 2016
·      Spot registrations for the 5k run will extend till 6pm of 10 December 2016, at the venue, KTPO.
Livebands, food stalls and a flea market selling curio items from across the country will entertain visitors and runners alike through the night.

Bengaluru Midnight Marathon is a Member of Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS-IAAF). AIMS is a member based organization of more than 380 of the world’s leading distance races, from over 100 countries & territories and they work with IAAF on all matters relating to international races. The IAAF acts as a world governing authority for a competition programme, for standardised technical equipment and for a list of official world records. The AIMS- IAAF certification has put BMM on the global map of internationally recognized marathons.

Shri Vimal Sharma, President, RBITC, 2016-2017 said “Charity begins at home, and RBITC is proud to partner with local communities in Whitefield and outer lying areas to support projects for the betterment of our living spaces and society. With the funds raised through BMM 2016, RBITC aims to expand the scope of charity projects to promote a cleaner environment and foster healthy living, leading to happy citizenry.” He also highlighted the various charity projects that the Trust had fulfilled over the last year as well as the upcoming future projects. In the last ten years of its existence, RBITC has engaged in various social initiatives and community Service Projects in and around Bengaluru:

1. Adoption of 7 Government Schools: RBITC has been working with the management of 7 Schools (with over 4,000 students) for interventions at multiple levels – infrastructure, science & computer labs, potable drinking water, upgrading toilet facilities, library & books, teachers’ training, conducting classes through volunteers.

2. Integrated Village Development: RBITC has adopted a village near Hoskote (B. Thimmasandra) for “Integrated Village Development”. This will involve interventions in the areas of healthcare, education, water, sanitation, livelihood and skill development. RBITC have already conducted a medical camp for all the residents (108 families) of the village. It intends to extend this over 9 additional villages in the district.

3. Healthcare: In partnership with Sakra World Hospital and Sankara Eye Hospital, RBITC plans to make a difference to over 500 underprivileged bread winners in a family.

First Indo-Japanese Advanced Level Cadaveric Course organized in Bangalore

Sakra World Hospital inaugurates the first-ever 3-day advanced level Indo-Japanese cadaveric workshop for the brain and spine with over 15 Japanese doctors at Bangalore for the purpose of training and experience.

Bengaluru, 2nd November 2016: Sakra World Hospital inaugrated the First Indo-Japanese Neurosurgery Cadaver Course in the city today.  Bengaluru, which is popularly known as the Silicon Valley of India and is the hub for Information Techonology, Biotechnology and Aerospace research is swiftly gaining reputation for medical tourism and advanced healthcare services.   The collaborative course is the first of its kind where 15 Japanese faculty and staff will be undergoing advanced training in brain and spine surgical techniques conducted by the Institute of Neurosciences, Sakra World Hospital. The course is an initiation of the collaborative effort between the Institute of Neurosciences, Sakra World Hospital, Bengaluru along with Hokkaido University, Japan with a plan to regularly send their faculty and students to train and experience practices in India.

“The Sakra Neurosurgery Cadaver course on skull base surgery and spine surgery is yet another example of the dedicated medical skills development programme now in vogue in Bangalore. For the first time in India we will be hosting an advanced level Cadaveric workshop for the Brain and Spine which is an Indo-Japanese conclave with half of the participants being Japanese faculty and staff which is indeed a matter of pride. Bangalore is emerging as the capital for advanced medical tourism and medical technology,” said Dr. Swaroop Gopal, Director – Sakra Institute of Neurosciences, Sakra World Hospital, Bengaluru.

The department of Neurosciences at Sakra is striving towards initiating medical training and education, to improve the quality of surgeries here.  This is a changing trend where surgeons from developed nations like Japan are coming to India - a developing nation to experience and enhance their skills, this shows the level of expertise our Indian doctors have in their field.

Sakra Indo-Japanese Neurosurgery Cadaver Course is an advanced cadaver course training program in collaboration with Hokkaido University, one of Japan’s oldest and most renowned institutions.   The collaboration is another historic first in hands-on skills training in India.  All of the participants from more than 20 different universities pan India and abroad are to be trained by international level faculty during the three-day rigorous training program.

~The theme for World Arthritis Day 2016, is ‘It is in your hands, take action’~

Bengaluru, 14th October 2016: Sakra World Hospital organised a talent show by joint replacement patients to create an awareness among the masses on how to deal with life even with Osteoarthritis today at Taj Gateway, Bengaluru. Osteoarthritis affects over 15 million adults in India every year where one in two of them develops symptoms of knee osteoarthritis. It has been predicted that India might become the capital of Osteoarthritis by the year 2025 with over 60 million people cases.  In the recent times, people between the age of 30-50 are also falling prey to this condition which was earlier noticed only among people older than 60 years.

Osteoarthritis has a serious impact on the lifestyle of the person, since it can lead to complete disabilty of the knee.  If left untreated it could result the person being bed ridden in the long run.  The common risk factors include obesity, increasing age, previous joint injury, overuse of joints and genes.  Traditionally, the first step of treatment was to administer the patient with  pain killers to relive the pain temporarily.  If the pain didn’t  not relieved even post medication and physiotherapy the only option was to undergo Joint Replacement Surgery.  It is estimated that only 10% of Indians undergo TKR procedure due to the fear of late recovery and post recovery pain.
