Audio, especially on mobile devices, is a highly personal experience and is a form of personal expression and mood. With the increase of demanding lifestyles, audio is becoming an intrinsic part of this generation’s media consumption. Earlier while television and other visual mediums were the trigger points for consumers, we are now seeing a shift towards passive entertainment consumption. Audio is the only true companion medium that can traverse our entire day; unlike visual mediums in the online and offline world, audio does not require peoples’ fully focused attention to make a lasting impact. Digital audio is considered a premium because of the passion-centric brand safe environment it’s delivered in as well as the enormous amounts of data its consumption produces. Each stream is associated with a time-of-day, location, device brand/model, mobile operator, genre, age, gender, and several other factors. Audio is fundamentally a medium about “top of the funnel” branding instead of clicks and conversions reserved for demand fulfillment media like Google search ads.

Global digital audio solutions provider AdsWizz, Omnicom Media Group, and Saavn created the first private marketplace for major brands. Hewlett-Packard (HP) was the first brand advertiser in India to run digital audio buys programmatically on Saavn.  

Targeting parameters such as gender, age, geography, device, mobile operator, time-of-day, and other custom cohorts are available to select in a simple console accessible to media buyers on their laptops and desktops. HP was able to engage its broadly identified target customers and create more awareness for its PCs among them. Overall, the time taken to launch this digital audio brand campaign was drastically reduced. Creative assets were uploaded with just a few mouse clicks and sophisticated reporting on campaign results were available in real-time, allowing stakeholders to control where and how their message appeared. Beyond specifying targeting parameters, major brands like HP gain invaluable data insights on listener engagement across the country. Eventually, brands will also run hundreds of audio advertising messages simultaneously, using sophisticated data-driven cohorts for the right audio message to reach the right listener.

The report further stated there were 181 billion music video streams in 2016, only a 7.5% increase from 2015. Overall, more people are streaming more music than any year prior.

India 3 October 2016: National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) recently concluded their‘Band Baja Contest’ a platform encouraging young aspiring contemporary bands to come forward and showcase their talent. In its 4th year now, the contest received an overwhelming number of contest entries from across the nation.The bands Euphony and The Yellow Diary, both from Mumbai have emerged as winners of the contest on the strength of their musicality.

“The Band Baja Contest was created with an intention to encourage young talent and their creativity in the alternate/contemporary genre. We are immensely proud that aspiring bands are coming forward and offering fresh music with breath-taking enthusiasm. We hope through Band Baja more bands are encouraged to come forward and showcase and grow their talent,” said Dr. Suvarnalata Rao, Head – Programming (Indian Music), NCPA.

The Yellow Diary’s music is an ode to the various experiences one goes through in this mysterious and unpredictable roller coaster called life.According to The Yellow Diary, “It's every musician's dream to play at NCPA. Seeing it come true at an early phase of the band's formation is an indescribably awesome feeling. We're honoured to be the winners of the Band Baja contest. We look forward to putting up a great show on 7th October.”


The Yellow Diary stood out owing to their unique, fresh and entertaining music while Euphony, led through the competition with their beat boxing and vocal unanimity. According to Euphony, “It was not so long ago when our journey began. For most of us, we entered Band Baja contest with nothing more than a dream and today winning the competition is a dream come true. It’s an honor and joy to be performing at the NCPA Mumbai. We are super stoked about the show on the 7th of October. We promise to turn up the vibe and unleash the fun quotient and let the energies flow.”


The winning bands will be given the coveted opportunity to perform at the NCPA Experimental Theatre along with a video recording of their performance at NCPA (a single edited track of their choice). A complimentary ticket will be given to each member of the winning bands for the One World Many Musics Festival along with the opportunity to meet and greet with the performing artists at the festival-Shantanu Moitra,Ani Choying,KaushikiChakrabarty, Purbayan (sitarist) and  Ashwin Srinivasan (flute).

Saavn Expands Original Programming with New Genres and A-List Entertainers


Renowned author and film critic Anupama Chopra, Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia and acclaimed music artist Raghu Dixit collaborate with Saavn to launch new exclusive programming on Saavn’s streaming platform 

MUMBAI, India, August 4th, 2016— Saavn, India’s leading audio entertainment streaming platform, today revealed an entirely new slate of original programming to debut in August and September. The new collection of shows includes Film Companion with Anupama Chopra and #NoFilter Neha hosted by Neha Dhupia. Additionally, Raghu Dixit, internationally acclaimed Indian Indie musician & music director, joins Saavn’s Artist-in-Residence (AiR) program. These exciting announcements follow the launch of Saavn’s Original Programming in April 2016, which marked the evolution of India’s largest music streaming service into a multimedia entertainment streaming platform.  

Starting August 11th, Saavn Originals will premiere  Film Companion with Anupama Chopra. In addition to movie reviews, Film Companion will feature interviews with A-list film stars, as well an in-depth look at what’s worth watching in India’s ever-growing movie scene. “I’m very excited to be on Saavn,” said Anupama Chopra, “I’ve never done a long form audio show before and this is both an exciting and challenging opportunity. I hope to learn and grow with Saavn.” 


In Film Companion’s special premiere episode, Anupama talks to the who’s who of Bollywood music in a power-packed panel including music director duo Vishal-Shekhar, well-known Indian film composer, musician, singer and lyricist Amit Trivedi, and the famous music composer and a guitarist, Ehsaan Noorani, on the changing landscape and future of Bollywood and the music industry. Following this premiere, Film Companion with Anupama Chopra will stream twice weekly every Thursday and Friday on Saavn.  

Saavn also adds tongue-in-cheek talk show #NoFilter Neha with Neha Dhupia to the Saavn Originals lineup. Neha, a well-known Indian Bollywood actor and former Femina Miss India Universe 2002, will be in conversation with celebrities from Bollywood, fashion, sports, and music in her notoriously wicked style. “A big inspiration for me are Tina Fey, Ellen DeGeneres, Madonna and other dynamic strong women who are constantly pushing themselves and doing so many things,” said Neha Dupia. “For me having an audio chat show is another exciting challenge which I hope gives me another opportunity to show my quirky side. Saavn to me is a place where the talented meet the cool and vice-versa and I am happy to get on board with them as a content creator.”

#NoFilter promises to shock, awe, and delight Saavn’s 18 million listeners starting mid-September.

Building on AiR’s successful launch with popular electronic artist Nucleya, Dixit will create new music, playlists, collaborations and audio shows exclusively for Saavn, expanding Saavn’s already diverse Indie music and Regional music offerings.

On August 5th, Dixit embarks on the most extensive tour of his career - the “Masterplan for Happiness” tour taking place in the U.S., Canada, Ireland and the U.K. To kick off Dixit’s debut as Saavn’s AiR, Saavn will be backing Dixit’s global tour by promoting the tour through Saavn’s app and social channels.
