National, December 6, 2016: JK Cement, India’s Premier Cement Company’s unique social initiative – JK Cement SwachhAbility Run concluded on December 3rd, 2016 with the last run in Noida which saw tremendous partaking with an amazing participation of over 5000 people. This unique run carried a strong message about two important causes – Inclusion of Divyangs as equal and Swachh Bharat. Celebrating the International day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3rd), the run began on November 27th and covered seven cities across seven days starting with Chandigarh, moving to Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat and finally Noida, covering the GT Belt with a participation of over 12, 000 people. Lt Gen Mukesh Sabharwal, PVSM AVSM**VSM of Rajput Regiment and Smt Meena Nayyar, mother of Capt Anuj Nayyar (MVC 07 Jul  1999 Op Vijay - Kargil War) graced the occasion as the Guests of Honour at Noida and hailed off the run, demonstrating support for the cause. 

JK Cement SwachhAbility Run culminated with an awards ceremony on 4th December at the Ayurvigyan Auditorium, New Delhi, saluting the spirit of Divyaangs. On this occasion, some Special Divyaangs were felicitated for breaking barriers and contributing to the society. Chief Guest Hon’ble Defence Secretary Sh. G Mohan addressed these real life heroes and applauded their never say die spirit.

The J.K. Cement SwachhAbility Run drew its inspiration from the spirit of selfless service, epitomized by The Indian Army and is the brainchild of Kargil War veteran Major D P Singh. A Limca Book of Records holder, Major Singh is India’s first blade runner who has more than 18 marathons to his credit. Major Singh says “There is a dire need of instilling confidence in Divyangs across the country and also change the perception of society towards them by making them showcase their hidden abilities by performing on ground. This was the guiding thought behind organizing the JK Cement SwachhAbility Run.”

This unique run had two sub events - a 10 km and a 3 km run. The 10 km run was open for all to participate, however in order to encourage more participation towards the cause, 3 km run was done alongside especially for school children and for anyone else who wished to run a shorter distance. Schools made use of this great opportunity for children, the future of tomorrow, to learn and be a part of this great cause. Schools children used the 3 km run as a platform to spread awareness about the causes in a creative and vibrant manner. After the run, the participants including Divyangs cleaned a designated area as a part of the Swachh Drive.

J.K. Cement Ltd. to award Excellence in Architecture with 24th Architect of the Year Award in Bengaluru

 J.K. Cement Ltd’s Architect of the Year Award – the much anticipated event of the year for the architect fraternity will be held in the Garden City, Bengaluru on 6th February at The Leela Palace Hotel.

Entering its 24th year, AYA has received a record 153 entries for various categories this year. Attended by the who’s who of the architectural world, the theme for this year’s AYA is Green Architecture and Affordable Housing. The jury for AYA is chaired by Mr. Yadupati Singhania – Chairman and Managing Director, J.K. Cement Ltd. and comprises eminent architects from various regions of India and two members representing the participating neighbouring countries (Mauritius & Sri Lanka).
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yadupati Singhania said, “Design has gained utmost significance in the new tech era, whether it is product, process or construction. Hence architects and their work are increasingly becoming more relevant than ever before that would create structures for everyone to admire in the days to come. For over 2 decades, J.K. Cement has been motivating architects to strive higher and we look forward to felicitating excellence in Architecture at the 24th AYA in Bengaluru this year.”

Sri Sri Ravishankar, founder of The Art of Living will grace the award ceremony as the Chief Guest. A new award category that has been introduced this year is the ‘Student Architect’ Award while the revolving category for 24th AYA is ‘Hill Architecture’

which is a commendation award. Additionally, awards will also be given in other categories like Green Architecture, Architect of the Year and Young Architect award while Commendation awards will include Private Building, Public Building and Group Housing. In the state architecture segment, the awards comprise state architect, state commendation award and state young architect award while the awards for foreign countries include foreign architect of the year, foreign commendation award and foreign young architect award.

Mr. M.P. Rawal – Advisor, J.K. Cement Ltd and Administrator (AYA) remarked, “AYA has emerged as the most significant platform for recognising outstanding work of the Architectural community and we at J.K. Cement aim to make this award extravaganza bigger and better every year. ”
