Retail Employees’ Day celebrations get bigger, better

The initiative achieved new milestones this year with retailers in Turkey and UAE joining in alongside 300+ organisations and 83 malls in India

Mumbai, 14 December, 2016: Every year, December 12 is celebrated as Retail Employees’ Day, to applaud the untiring efforts of retail associates. This initiative is conceptualized by TRRAIN (Trust for Retailers & Retail Associates of India) and supported by Retailers Association of India.

It is an attempt to encourage employers as well as customers to recognize the efforts of the 43 million retail associates across the country. The day aims at creating awareness and empathy for their jobs and lives and the significant role they play in the lives of the customer.

Since its launch in 2011, Retail Employees’ day has grown from strength to strength with millions of people celebrating the day across India, Turkey and UAE, this year. In India as many as 311 organisations and 83 malls across India celebrated the day by organising various employee recognition and engagement activities such as cultural programmes, free make-overs, team lunches, and outings with family.

The noble initiative even received due recognition from the government with Chief Ministers of various states, Cabinet ministers and key ministries appreciating the retail workforce for their efforts and contribution to the economy. The celebrations received a further boost with a message from the Prime Minister’s Office showing its support to India’s 2nd largest industry- retail.

The event also received support from dignitaries and brand ambassadors across multiple brands. Renowned celebrities from the Indian film Industry tweeted and shared video messages thanking all the retail associates on Retail Employees’ Day. The simple action of saying ‘Thank You’ has garnered an estimated digital footprint of over 20 million.

“TRRAIN is proud of being part of the Indian Retail Industry. In its sixth year of Retail Employees’ Day celebration, the programme has achieved new heights in not only the number of retail employees celebrating but also the width of participation from small single shop retailers to a large retail group, a disability centre training people for retail celebrating to airport retailers, from kiranas to local associations,” said BS Nagesh, Founder, TRRAIN speaking on the occasion.

“I believe the result we have witnessed can be credited to the positive impact that retailers have seen in a single day of celebration on team work and relationship building and the associates feeling recognised and valued for their efforts,” he added.

The feather in the cap for TRRAIN this year was the association with Paytm and the Business Excellence Department in the department of Economic Development, UAE joining hands to celebrate Retail Employees' Day.

“With the support of RAI in partnering with this initiative and our other partners putting their might behind it, we will take it to greater heights and see a billion people celebrating Retail Employees’ Day across the globe in the future,” he concluded.

Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, Retailers Association of India, said, “The industry gets its strength from the expertise of people working in the Industry, who render services that lead to customer satisfaction. Retail Employees serve the public through the year, including on holidays. And it was heart-warming to see so many stores, malls and service providers across the country celebrate Retail Employees day with merriment and events, making their employees feel special. Each one of them, in their own way, has helped make Retail Employees’ Day bigger and better.”
