A heart touching day for adults at Om Creations Trust as they share memories with the guest students from USA

Mumbai, 21st November, 2016: Students from the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota, USA visited and volunteered a day’s work at Om Creations Trust. During their visit, the guest students were made familiar with the day-to-day functioning and lifestyle of the specially-abled adults. The guest students also interacted with Dr. Radhike Khanna, founder trustee of Om Creations to understand the functioning of an NGO. They also witnessed how these specially-abled are trained to work and earn their livelihood with dignity. As a reflection of their love and care, the students shared lunch and sweets with specially-abled adults making them feel as equals.

An International student from University of St. Thomas said, “It’s one of the most adorable experiences of our lives. Not only did we get a chance to interact with the adults here but we also experienced and contributed to their work. Everybody present at the site felt a connection and belongingness with these specially-abled adults.”

The occasion also marked the inauguration of a new community centre acquired by Om Creations at Anand Niketan. 

The visit of international students was organized by S.P.Jain Institute of Management and Research as a part of their exchange program.

About Om Creations Trust: 

Om Creations gives developmentally challenged women training in arts, crafts and culinary skills. Established in 1991, the organisation runs three centers in Mumbai that aim to economically empower women. It gives them the space and tools they need to create more than 175 products, including painting, gift bags, wallets, scarves and food, such as bread and other baked goods, chocolates and made-to-order meals.

Om Creations staff members teach the women painting and sculpting techniques, baking, cooking, gift wrapping skills amongst others. It gives the women a stipend for the products they make, thus helping them to support themselves and their families. Various corporate and individuals are part of their elite list of clients. As a result of the confidence and skills they learn through Om Creations, many of them have subsequently been employed at prestigious companies.
