Giftease.com, India’s leading gifting portal shares findings of what this Diwali is expected to look like
National, 26th October, 2016: Diwali, the festival of lights, is also one of the most loved festivals in India and is associated with gifting amongst friends and relatives. People start their Diwali shopping much in advance and scout for traditional gifts and sweets for their loved ones. This year, Giftease.com, a leading gifting portal, decoded India’s preference for gifts and brought a fresh perspective on the spirit of Indians and their love for this occasion.
With an increase in disposable income, everybody wants to explore the vast choice of gifting options available today. Giftease.com conducted an online survey across the age group 18 to 50 which featured some really interesting questions like where India prefers to shop – online or instore, the budget that they keep aside for gifting during Diwali, what gifts they prefer to receive this Diwali, etc.
Out of all, 3 key takeaways from the survey were:
· Almost 37% of respondents stated they would prefer buying gifts in store and 63% would like buying it online
· While 41% people preferred to spend in the range of INR 500-1500, around 33% went a mile extra to spend upto INR 3000 for Diwali gifts
· As opposed to the traditional home décor and sweets, nearly 50% of the respondents expected to receive electronics and gadgets followed by clothes and accessories this Diwali.

We have observed a sharp rise in website traffic and sale during this time and hence decided to do an extensive study on the shopping sentiment of customers. In the midst of extended working hours and busy lifestyles, gifting has evolved over the years and we have noticed a great push in online sales over instore purchases. People prefer this as it reduces the effort of pogoing from one shop to another, saving time, money and energy. Interestingly the largest buyers are from Tier II and Tier III towns.”
Some other findings from the survey:
· This Diwali women (55.70%) are spending more than men (44.30%)
· The most preferred reason for people to shop online is cost effective (68%) followed by more variety (66%)
· 12% respondents feel the need to keep a tap on Diwali spends and keep a budget of INR 500 for gifts this season
· 83% of the total respondents would like to give gifts only to their immediate family
