India 21 October, 2016: Celebrations if done responsibly can double up the joy of any festival. In an attempt to promote responsible celebrations, this Diwali city’s favorite lifestyle destination, DLF Place, Saket has come up with an initiative of ‘let’s light up hearts, not firecrackers’. This initiative aims at sensitizing children about the hazards caused by crackers via various interesting activities which will be conducted for children on two days, 22nd and 23rd October, 2016 at the mall precincts.
Diwali is a festival of lights; however in the past few years it has lost its essence and has turned into a festival where crackers are burned. Not only burning crackers causes wastage of money, but also leads to increase in the pollution levels in the existing polluted city of Delhi. So, to promote cracker-free Diwali, a life-size installation artwork will be made where messages will be written by the children based on the theme, ‘Say No to Crackers’ on Saturday, 22nd October, 2016. The first day of the session, will witness some ice-breaking games based on the theme of this initiative. In addition to this, a skit on ‘Child Labour and the dangers underprivileged children go through’ will be performed on the same day. Some fun activities like cracker craft, laddoo making, Diwali sweets decoration and Diya painting will also be organized for children.
The second day of the session, will witness a small skit on ‘Pollution caused by firecrackers’ on Sunday, 23rd October 2016. Other activities at the mall include Diwali games, paper lantern making session, poster making activity on the theme ‘No Dhamaka, No Pataka’ and a ‘Life Size Rangoli’ making activity. Musicians marching around the mall along with children holding posters and slogans to extend awareness about responsible Diwali celebrations will be also be one of the activities.
