At a time when Maharashtra is reeling under a severe drought, community initiatives to highlight water conservation efforts have assumed critical importance. With a view to involving common citizens in the efforts to use water judiciously and stop its wastage, a  rally will be flagged off from Sion Circle by Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis on May 1.  Mumbai BJP President Advocate Ashish Shelar will be in attendance at the 6-kms rally which is the brainchild of BJP MLA from Sion-Koliwada Captain Tamil Selvan.

“the rally is an attempt to bring people from all walks of life on a common platform and create public awareness about saving water. As committed citizens, it should be our constant endeavor to find long-lasting ways and means to conserve and use water in an economic manner. I exhort my fellow citizens to use water sparingly and recycle water whenever possible”, stated Captain Selvan.

Lauding the initiative to bring common folk on a public platform to create awareness on such a crucial issue, Advocate Shelar said, “it is really a commendable effort and a unique idea to spread the message of water conservation through this rally. Every person from the lowest to the highest strata of society should make a commitment towards achieving zero-wastage of water. It is important to remember that every drop of water saved can save the life, crops and livelihood of so many of our poor brethren living in the interiors of Maharashtra.”

The organization of the rally will coincide with the commemoration of Maharashtra Day on May 1, the day on which the state was formed in 1960.
