Chandigarh, April 13th, 2016–The Founder Chairman of the Hero Group Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal was a truly inspiring figure in Indian industry. Starting from virtually nothing, he and his brothers created a diversified Group with interests in motorcycles, cycles, financial services, clean energy and real estate. The Hero Group today is a USD 5 billion conglomerate and the world’s largest manufacturer of 2 wheelers. He received numerous Awards during his lifetime including the Padma Bhushan in 2005.

Keeping up with the tradition of giving and nurturing that he epitomized, the next generation of his family laid the foundation for BMU that will carry his legacy forward. Like the iconic John D. Rockefeller who founded the University of Chicago, Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal leaves a legacy of enterprise, pursuit of excellence and more importantly humaneness which will be nourished by the students of BMU for hundreds of years to come


To commemorate the life and times of Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal; the faculty, staff and students of the Brijmohan Lall Munjal University (BMU), unveiled a memorial at the university’s campus.


The memorial was unveiled by Mrs. Santosh Munjal.Mr. Suman Kant Munjal, Managing Director,Rockman Industries Ltd.;Mr. Pawan Kant Munjal, Chairman and MD ,Hero Motocorp Ltd. and Mr. Sunil Kant Munjal, Chairman, Hero Corporate Services & Jt. MD, Hero MotoCorp Ltd.; along with other members of the Munjal family who were present at the event.


The event was also attended by close family and business friends of the Munjal family. Eminent industrialists and corporate graced the ceremony with their presence.

The memorial is set in a soothing environment with abundant greenery and water bodies. It will be ideal for quiet contemplation. The centre of attraction is a boulder which is symbolic of the rock solid values that the University has been built on.


Elaborating on the ceremony, Mr. Akshay Munjal, President, BML Munjal University said, “My grandfather was very inclined towards the cause of education. He would often quote that there is no greater investment and no better return than that in education. It benefits not only an individual but society at large. He inspired and wanted us to focus on nurturing students to become leaders with high ethical standards, knowledge, and the skills required for success in life; something that we are trying to do each day at BMU.”

The unveiling of the memorial was followed up by a play on the life of Late Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal. The play was enacted by the students of BMU and Raman Munjal Vidya Mandir School. It was an inspiring performance by enthusiastic youngsters with no professional experience of theatre.
