The USC Viterbi School of Engineering based in Los Angeles, USA, conferred Ms. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon with the prestigious ‘Global Leadership in Engineering’ Award 2016 at the 38th Annual Viterbi Awards, held on April 21st in the US. The Global Leadership in Engineering award, is in recognition of her consistent and outstanding contribution to the field of biotechnology and extraordinary innovations which have impacted & touched millions of lives all over the globe. USC Viterbi is ranked among the top graduate programs in the world and enrols nearly 7000 undergraduate and graduate students taught by 185 tenured faculty, with 73 endowed chairs and professorships.

Elon Musk, Tesla Motors and Space Exploration Technologies, John C. Martin, Gilead Sciences, Narayan Murthy of Infosys, Ronald N. Tutor, Tutor Perini Corporation are some of the global influencers who have been honoured with this award in the past. The Viterbi Awards are a school tradition since 1978, and recognize outstanding members of the engineering community as well as USC Viterbi School of Engineering alumni who have made lasting contributions to science and engineering. The three categories of awards include the Global Leadership in Engineering Award, the Daniel J. Epstein Engineering Management Award, and the Mark A. Stevens Distinguished Alumni Award.
