The event was designed to spread the message about TB in a unique yet effective way.  Apart from skits by the nursing students, planned at prominent locations in the city, there was also a writing competition for students. With active participation from over 300 students and volunteers, the event is sure to create the desired impact.

World Tuberculosis Day has been formulated to build public awareness about the global epidemic of Tuberculosis (TB) and efforts to eliminate the disease.  As per the WHO Global Tuberculosis report 2015, TB ranks alongside HIV as a leading cause of death with about 1.5 million TB deaths in 2014.  That said, there has been an overall drop of 47% in the TB death rate since 1990 and a whopping 43 million lives have been saved between 2000 and 2014 through effective diagnosis and treatment.

Speaking on organizing this event Jayakar Jerome, Director, St. Martha’s Hospital says "We are really happy to be associated with this day and hope that we can help contribute in raising awareness about TB and also in the efforts being taken to eradicate it.  In line with our mission, it is definitely our contribution and service to the society”.
