LeapStart National Badminton Championship 2016 - Finals

Bangalore, October 15th, 2016: LeapStart, India’s premier sports & physical education programme concluded the fourth edition of its National Badminton Championships today at the Karnataka Badminton Association (KBA), Bangalore.

The LeapStart National Badminton Championship saw players from 8 cities battle it out for the national title. The final day witnessed some closely contested matches including the battle for the third place playoff between M Arvind (SPK International School, Chennai) and Sri Harsha (JHPS, Hyderabad) where Arvind came out victorious 13-5, 15-8, 15-6.

It was double the joy for Shraddha Hegde (Sindhi High School, Bangalore) and Tushar Suveer (Narayana E-Techno, Bangalore) who both defended their titles in the U-13 Girls and U-11 Boys categories respectively.

Other stand out performances included Roshni Gayatri (Genesis International School, Hyderabad) where she bagged the U-15 Girls title having finished runner-up in 2015.

Mr. Vimal Kumar former badminton player and national coach, who is currently coaching ace shuttler Saina Nehwal, distributed the prizes to the winners and encouraged the students to take up the sport seriously.  “It is important to stay focussed, practice hard and eat well”, said Vimal Kumar while addressing all the participants. He further said, “such grassroots tournaments are important to give exposure to participants across India”.

“The LeapStart Badminton tournament now has grown into the biggest private national tournament giving almost 1500 students across cities a unique opportunity to pit themselves with talent from different states.
