Studies reveals an alarming rise in heart cases among youngsters and women

According to the recent studies, urban youth is five times more prone to heart diseases in comparison to population residing in rural areas, owing to their lifestyle habits and everyday routine. 
The most common cause for all these premature symptoms is vulnerability to Chronological Ageing –  term commonly used by the consultants to understand the age of heart basis an individuals’ lifestyle habits. Talking about the recent change, Dr. Girish Navasundi, Senior Consultant, Cardiology said, “We have witnessed an alarming rise in the cases among our youth in the city. The study also revealed, consumption of tobacco and alcohol, pro-longed stress and unhealthy lifestyle are major components in pre-mature ageing of the heart. Therefore, it is important that an individual undergoes screening once a year and ensure a healthy heart and follow a healthy regime to enjoy a happy and disease-free life.”

Sharing details on the rising cases in women, Dr Abhijit Kulkarni - Intervention Cardiologist, Apollo Hospitals, Bangalore shared, “The study reveals that women residing in urban areas after reaching menopause become three times more prone towards heart ailments than men. 1 in every 55 women is being diagnosed with health anomalies which can lead to heart diseases in future. It has been witnessed that they usually get proactive towards health checks once they attain menopause or when they face any medical concern. But, considering the day to day routine urban women follow nowadays, it is imperative for them to stay alert throughout their life term and opt for preventive health check-up.” 

He further added, “Actually, women need to be more cautious about their heart and other medical conditions once they attain menopause as then the incidence of heart ailments increase three times during this period. The study also reveals that a woman has 3 times more risks of dying with a heart disease than her male counterpart post menopause.”
