 The Council for Fair Business Practices (CFBP) marked the completion of 50 years of its establishment and welcomed Ms. Kalpana Munshi as their First Woman President for the year 2016-18. The ceremony was organized at The Mayfair Banquets, Worli. The Chief Guest Hon’ble Shri Piyush Goyal - Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal, New & Renewable Energy, Mines, Govt. of India - unveiled a Souvenir and Coffee Table Book depicting the 50 Golden years of CFBP.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shekhar Bajaj, Former President, CFBP said “In its 50th year, an organization like CFBP is more relevant and will be seen playing an active role since consumers are becoming more aware and are vocal about their concerns both on products and services. CFBP acts as a facilitator to get consumer closer to the Companies & Service Sectors to bridge the gap.”

“Together with our collective Vision & Mission, we shall take CFBP to greater heights,” said Mrs. Kalpana Munshi, President CFBP.

CFBP is a non-profit organization and primarily relies on the support of its members. It creates awareness among consumers, serves as a resource center & provides quality testing of consumer products. Their mission is “We shall promote the highest ethical practices, by business & professionals, in order to provide complete satisfaction to consumers & other stakeholders.” It is governed by elected Executive Committee Members and most of CFBP’s activities are reported to them. The annual “CFBP Jamnalal Bajaj Uchit Vyavahar Puraskar” (Jamnalal Bajaj Award for Fair Business Practices) gives away Awards at the hands of distinguished personalities to manufactures, trade, service organizations and associations who have made significant efforts in promoting high standards of integrity in business dealings, thereby promoting protection of the consumers’ interests.  

The Education Committee of CFBP has been instrumental in promoting Consumer Education in schools and colleges for which a Consumer Syllabus has been formulated which further went on to be adopted and introduced in schools across the country by the Board of Education. CFBP’s tie up with an International Organization like Rotary International has created a wider platform for them. It will now have more hands to support the mission & vision of CFBP by reaching out to the wider groups of Consumers comprising of the children, youth, women & the senior citizens. 

Ramkrishna Bajaj, CFBP Consumer Education & Testing Centre, accredited by the National Accreditation Board for testing and calibration Laboratories (NABL,) is equipped to conduct chemical, microbiological & sensory studies of foods.
The CFBP embarked on a joint initiative with the Rotary International District 3141 & 3142 to secure and protect the rights of patients and strives to create awareness about highest ethical standards and fair business practices among businessmen and associations through numerous interactive sessions.

The Council for Fair Business Practices (CFBP) was set up in late 1966 by a group of Eminent Businessmen such as Mr. J.R.D. Tata, Mr. Ramkrishna Bajaj, Mr. Arvind Mafatlal, Mr. S. P. Godrej, Mr. Keshub Mahindra, Mr. Harish Mahindra, Mr. Naval Tata, Mr. Ashok Birla & others. The main objective was to have a self-regulatory body of businessmen to protect the interests of the consumers by ensuring that businessmen follow fair business practices. It serves as a bridge between the Consumers and Manufacturers.  It caters to both manufactured products & service sector.
