The department of Political Science and Media and Public Relations Committee of Maharashtra College of Arts, Science and Commerce-Mumbai, jointly organized a guest lecture on “Media Trial - Legal relevance and Appropriateness” on   Saturday, 13th August, 2016. Mr. Kiran Tare, Sr. Associate Editor, India Today and Senior Advocate Faisal Kazi were invited to speak on this occasion.

Media constitute a separate social institution within society with its own rules and practices, but subject to definition and limitation by the wider society.  The issue of Media trail specially the electronic media gaining significance informal power growth has raised lot of concerns within the society. The program was organized with the intention to clear the misconception of media perceived by citizen and to highlight the role of media as a reporter and the duty of court to carry on the trail.

Mr. Tare clarified certain misconceptions with regard to media trial and admitted certain do hype the news for the sake of TRP. Advocate Faisal Kazi highlighted the legal perspective and discussed various constitutional provisions. Students Aftab Alam and Hasan also came forward to express their views. The audience which comprised of students and faculty had lively interactive session with the speakers after the talk. Principal Dr. Sirajuddin Chougle appreciated the efforts of the committees and encouraged the students to take up challenging roles without fear. Prof M.Z.Shahid, Incharge of the Dept. Of Political Science introduced the topic and compared the program. Dr. Jayashree Menon, Coordinator of the MPR thanked the guests.
