68th Republic Day Celebrations at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Hyderabad


Hyderabad, January 28, 2017: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Hyderabad, an off-campus of TISS Mumbai, a public funded deemed university, celebrated the 68th Republic Day today at S.R. Sankaran Bhavan in Telangana State Institute of Panchayat Raj and Rural Development (TSIPARD) in Rajendra Nagar.

Professor Siva Raju, the Deputy Director of TISS Hyderabad campus, hoisted the national flag on the S.R. Sankaran Block. In his speech, Prof. Siva Raju addressed the gathering of TISS faculty, students, administrative staff and the security staff, where he announced about the following developments at the institute:

• TISS has created 10 percent supernumerary quota for admission of Telangana Ashram school students into the integrated BA-MA program of TISS Hyderabad.
• TISS Hyderabad is also collaborating with the Government of Telangana on initiatives to address violence against women in the state.
• The institution is also partnering with several district administrations to undertake Social Impact Assessment studies as a part of the district planning processes.

In his speech, Prof. Siva Raju reminded the TISS community of its duties towards the nation and the advancement of India. He said, “TISS has always been a pioneering institute in many aspects of national development in terms of providing intellectual support to the Indian government in designing innovative policies and carrying forward social justice agenda of the Indian democracy.” His speech was followed by a cultural programme presented by the students.

The event concluded with prize distribution ceremony where Prof. Siva Raju felicitated the students with “Best Student Awards” for scoring the highest marks in ‘Bachelor of Arts’ and ‘Masters of Arts’ in the previous academic year.
