Tesco Bengaluru Wins Best Practice in Data Analysis Strategy Award

Bengaluru, February 4, 2016: Tesco Bengaluru, the only retail operations and technology centre for Tesco worldwide, won the ‘Best Practice in Data Analysis Strategy’ Award at the 2016 Big Data & Analytics Summit held at Mumbai on February 3, 2016.

The Awards identify and honour companies that have demonstrated excellence and best practices in Big Data technology. Tesco was selected by a core committee comprising distinguished industry experts on the basis of their application of analytics in Energy Consumption Reduction, Spend Optimisation and Effective Space Management that enabled the organisation achieve a 40.9% reduction in Carbon Dioxide emissions in stores and distribution centres across the Group against a 2006/07 baseline. By 2020, Tesco hopes to reduce emissions by 50% across the Group.[i]

Tesco Bengaluru was recognised for developing an Analytics Practice that collaborates with teams across the organisation and delivers significant benefits including energy and carbon savings. The strategy exemplified the need for deploying Predictive Analytics, in addition to typical reporting and monitoring techniques to extract value and fully leverage investments from a massive collection of data. This helped the business gain cost competiveness and raise the bar in Energy and Sustainability Management.
