“The government’s ‘Skill India’ initiative is noteworthy. However, its target of skilling over 40 crore people by 2022 cannot be met without proper technological infrastructure. Technology-enabled learning will play a crucial role in improving skill development in the country which is expected to face a shortage of 25 crore skilled workers across sectors by 2022. This Union Budget, we expect the government to introduce incentives for corporates investing in Learning and Development technology. This will not only lead to increased participation of the private sector, but also provide working professionals and students in educational institutes access to cost effective self-education programs.” - Vinay Pradhan, Country Manager- India,  Skillsoft

Union Budget Expectations from Information Technology sector-

“With the recent demonetization decision giving an impetus towards going digital, it is absolutely necessary to ensure that the people of the country are prepared to take on this digital revolution. It goes without saying that the country’s economic success lies in the hands of its people, and that empowering them with the right set of skills is a necessary condition for the country to benefit. We, therefore, hope and expect the Government to provide tax exemption for investments made in the Learning and Development sector. In addition, procurement of simulators, multimedia and e-learning should be made cost effective and easily available for training providers.” – Basanth Govindapillai, VP & GM – India Operations, SumTotal Systems
