Shiv Nadar University concludes the first chapter of Asian Dialogue on Challenges in India’s Act East Policy


January 25, 2017, Uttar Pradesh:The Department of International Relations and Governance Studies and C-PACT, Shiv Nadar University,announced the successful conclusion of the inaugural round of Asian Dialogue that focused on the  challenges and opportunities for India in its Act East policy on January 24, 2017. Participants in the dialogue included veteran army officers like Lt. Gen. D. B. Shekatkar who has served in distinguished capacities in the Indian armed forces and, also headed the high powered committee set up by the ministry of defence; Lt. Gen. Vinod Bhatia DGMO retd; Lt. Gen. Kulkarni, who has contributed in key military fields, and R. Chandrashekhar, the former Deputy Director General and Deputy Military Secretary prior to his elevation as Additional Director General.

The dialogue listed the key challenges, elaborated on their nature, and suggested measures to meet them in light of our current international standing.


Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ajay Dandekar, Director of School of Humanities and Social Sciences  said, “We are working towards making the Department of International Relations and Governance Studies at Shiv Nadar University a platform where we get to discuss policy issues as they get formed and we look forward to develop our expertise over a period of time on matters of global governance so that we can become a key contributor to India’s growing policy debates thatfacilitate progress and economic upturn.”

The Dialogue emphasized the centrality of India to the emerging Asian order. Challenges and opportunities pertaining to the maritime domain, connectivity projects that link India and East Asia, institutional architecture to resolve territorial security issues and coordinate actions on climate change, terrorism and natural disasters were discussed.
