OET launches new test centre in Kerala - more opportunities globally for the healthcare professionals


Kochi: Cambridge English Language Assessment (Part of the University of Cambridge) and Boxhill Institute, Australia have launched the new authorised Occupational English Test (OET) venue in Kochi recently for the healthcare professionals of the state. As part of this event, David Wiltshire, OET Preparation Content Manager and Afsaneh Rashidi, OET Operations Support Manager from Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment, Australia presented two information sessions - a masterclass for English language trainers on how to prepare students to succeed in the English language test for healthcare professionals and a roadshow for healthcare students and professionals on how to prepare for success in the OET.

Occupational English Test (OET) is an industry-recognised English language test for healthcare professionals seeking to register and practise in an English-speaking environment. Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment (a joint venture of Cambridge English Language Assessment & Box Hill Institute, a leading Australian vocational and higher education provider) launched a new test venue at Kochi which will be managed by Planet EDU, a leading educational company, which also runs authorised OET Test venues in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai.

OET is accepted as proof of English proficiency by all major boards and councils in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, for registration in 12 healthcare professions. OET is also used by leading healthcare educators for entry and exit testing, to ensure students have the work-ready English language skills on graduation.

The launch event was attended by experts from the healthcare sector in India, educators and officials from Cambridge English Language Assessment, OET and Planet EDU. This new test venue at Kochi will be very useful for the healthcare professionals like doctors, nurses and many more the opportunity to become more competent in English as it relates to their workplace, leading to safer and higher quality care.

In 2014, Australia ranked sixth in the world in terms of healthcare efficiency, up from seventh in 2013, and rated seventh in life expectancy. Compared with other countries’ health systems, Australia’s healthcare system and its outcomes rank highly. Similarly, New Zealand and Singapore are yet other notable countries for their advancements and futuristic approaches in the healthcare industry.
