The initiative that was started in 2014 has helped in decreasing mortality rate and duration of the patients stay in ICU which has resulted in quick recovery and decrease hospital expenses. The Asian Hospital Management Awards (AHMA) recognises and honours hospitals in Asia that implement best practices.

The mission AAA “Avoid Antibiotics Abuse” is aimed at the prevention and delay of emergence of antimicrobial resistance with favourable clinical outcomes. The mission has been and is driven by the AMS working group which includes the Intensivists, Microbiologist and Clinical Pharmacists in conjunction with Quality and Patient Safety. AAA mission was implemented in the medical ICU over 2 years (2014-2016) by adopting Best Antimicrobial Stewardship Practices such as optimal selection, dosing and duration of the use of antimicrobials used for Empiric therapy and Surgical prophylaxis. Several favourable clinical and Microbiological outcomes were achieved such as decrease in mortality and duration of ICU stay and conversion of resistant microbes into more susceptible strains.

AHMA is part of the Hospital Management Asia (HMA) conference, an annual regional event attended by owners of various hospitals, C-level executives, directors, clinicians and healthcare leaders. They get an insights on worldwide healthcare management thinking, best practices and solutions during the conference.
