Its top 5 cities are expected to grow to the size of those of middle income countries by 2030. Within this rising economy, healthcare is one of the fastest growing industries and is expected to advance at a CAGR of 18.3% between 2012-20, to 280 billion USD by 2020. This puts India up on the global stage as the second largest CAGR in healthcare among all BRIIC counties.

Having said that, India also has many healthcare problems and gaps in solutions for these problems. These range from lack of infrastructure and manpower, shift in disease burden to longer term non-communicable diseases to low insurance penetration etc. This picture actually presents opportunities for more investment and digital interventions and platforms such as Telemedicon bring together the relevant players and stakeholders to discuss and find solutions to the need gaps

“The use of telecommunications technology provides expanded access to quality, cost-efficient healthcare and this is where events such as Telemedicon Conference come in – a conference of top business leaders from around the world who will drive the vision of integrating digital technology into healthcare to create innovative solutions for current problems.” Shared Mr. Jonathan Linkous

“With the government taking initiatives such as Digital India, Common Services Centers, and Aadhar, digital technologies mindset is already showing strong adoption in both the public and private sector. The private sector on the other hand has invested in initiatives such as mobile apps, the opening of telemedicine centers by major hospitals, and the setting up of innovation centers in India by global medical device manufacturers. These kinds of initiatives have encouraged a bustling startup scene and startup partnerships with MNCs all over India, helping put 3 Indian cities in the top 10 cities globally ranked in the Innovation Index”, Dr. Sanjay Sharma, Organizing Secretary of Telemedicon2016, further added.

Today, digital technologies have evolved from EMRs to 3-D printing to disease diagnosis and treatment through machine algorithms, like IBM Watson. With India’s expanding smartphone and internet market (CAGR of 20-30%), digital interventions have shown improvements in access, affordability, and the quality of healthcare throughout the care pathway, creating a great opportunities for many more innovations to be adapted in Indian primary healthcare industry.
