Bangalore, October 4, 2016:: Amazon India plans to celebrate ‘Joy of Giving Week’ in the month of October across all Amazon India Office locations and the Fulfillment Centers (FCs).
‘Joy of Giving Week’ is a "festival of philanthropy" that aims to become a part of the Indian ethos, with the Week being celebrated every year covering Gandhi Jayanti by engaging people through "acts of giving" – money, time, resources and skills - spanning the corporate, NGO and government sectors, schools, colleges and the general public.
Amazon has been celebrating this event over the last two years supporting various initiatives. In recognition of the enthusiastic support from employees last year, Amazon is hosting a month long celebration across all their offices and FCs in India this year. The activities will be aligned to the four causes that Amazon CSR supports – namely Education, Health and Hygiene, Women empowerment and Livelihood.
Joy of Giving Week celebrations will be conducted on 4 separate days (once a week) in the month of October at Amazon Office locations and the Fulfillment Centers.
The plan for the overall month is given below:
Education – 4th October, 2016
· The theme of ‘Joy of Giving’ at Amazon in the first week of October is Education. Amazon in association with Foundation for Excellence is conducting Remote Mentoring programme for rural youth. Under this programme, Amazon employees volunteer to coach college students in rural India remotely through online tools and mentor them on soft skills. Also, employees will donate kids CDs, toys, books, stationery etc through Government schools making learning fun for kids.
Health & Hygiene – 14th October, 2016
· Eat for the Cause campaign with Akshaya Patra where employees buy lunch from Akshayapatra’s kitchen and the proceeds go towards mid-day meals for school children.
· Hand washing campaign – Employees will volunteer to spread awareness on the importance of hand washing in neighboring communities and schools.
Women Empowerment and Livelihood – 21st October, 2016
· Women Empowerment - Amazon conducts an exhibition where women entrepreneurs from various NGOs will set up stalls selling various handcraft items and employees can purchase the same.

As part of the Joy of Giving initiative, Akshaya Patra will set up a counter to serve lunch (North Indian meal) at our cafeterias in WTC and Bagmane (Taurus and Orion buildings) on 5th October. The food is priced at Rs. 140 per person and the proceeds will go towards providing mid-day meals for school children.
The tokens for lunch that will be served on 5th Oct(Wednesday) will be sold at our cafeterias in WTC (6th floor cafeteria) and Bagmane (Taurus cafeteria) on 30th Sep(Friday) and 3rd Oct(Monday) from 1 – 3 pm.
