HAIR CARE CHALLENGES DURING WINTERS" inputs by Aashmeen Munjaal make-up expert & director  of Star Salon n' academy.

India 19 October 2016: The winter season brings colder temperatures and lack of moisture in the air which makes the hair lifeless, damaged, and dry.

Breakage: Normally healthy hair locks are extra fragile and seems to be breaking at breakneck speed in winters.
1. Use An Egg Mask- Add a few drop of essential oils to two eggs and beat them into a smooth hair mask. You can also add eggs to your regular henna mask, or mix them with plain curd. Rinse with a mild shampoo and all you have left is silky softer hair which stays more on your head and less on your comb.
2. Hot Oil Massage- Usually natural oils like olive, corn, almond, lanolin, coconut and castor oils are used for hot oil massages. They are superb in repairing the damage and moisturize the hair eventually stopping weakening and falling of hair.
3. Eat A Balanced Diet - A balanced diet is the best home remedy for hair breakage which we often oversee. Your plate should be rich with lean proteins, biotin, iron, beta-carotene, omega 3 fatty acids, and zinc. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day.

Split ends: If we dryer our hair in winter it causes more split ends. We can protect our hair by shampooing often times.
1. Oil  Combination massage-Massaging your scalp with coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil or a combination of these three is very good for your hair.
2. Egg mask-
Mix egg yolk in three tablespoons of olive oil and one tablespoon of honey. Gently massage this mask in your hair and cover with a shower cap. Leave on for half an hour and wash with a mild shampoo.

3. Honey rinse- Mix two tablespoons honey in four cups warm water and apply to your hair after you shampoo/condition your hair. Leave it in your hair. It will control hair dryness and friz.

Dry hair and dry scalp:  Lack of humidity and moisture in the air during the winter give rise to dry hair and scalp. The hair appears rough and become brittle.

1. Tea Tree Oil- Tea tree oil, with its powerful antifungal and antibacterial properties, makes an amazing home remedy for dry scalp.

2. Aloe vera Gel- Aloe Vera helps to alleviate the presence of pesky flakes. Treating a flaky scalp can also be effective in eliminating dandruff.

3. Coconut Oil to the RescueCoconut oil is one of the widely used home remedies to treat dry scalp. It restores the natural moisture of the scalp and prevents dryness and flakiness. Massage warm coconut oil gently onto the entire scalp, leave it on for an hour, and then rinse.

Itchy scalp: The scalp feels itchy and tight when the hair is dry.  It is recommended that the hair must be gently patted and itching avoided to prevent the development of dandruff and flaking.

 • Lemon juice is also considered good for hair. Thus, simply rubbing some lemon juice on the scalp and rinsing the hair after a few minutes is one of the most effective Itchy Scalp home remedies.

• Applying aloe vera gel on the scalp for about ten to fifteen minutes and then washing it off is one of the most popular natural home remedies for Itchy Scalp.
Baking soda is considered highly beneficial for easing and reducing Itchy Scalp. For this, apply a paste prepared by adding some water in baking powder on the scalp for about half and hour and then wash it off.

Dandruff: Dry scalp and dandruff are closely related to each other. Avoid shampoos containing sulphates which tend to dry the hair more.
