CavinKare and Ability Foundation invite nominations for the 15th edition of CavinKare Ability Awards for achievers with disabilities.


Mumbai, 4th October 2016 : The 15th edition of CavinKare Ability Awards invites nominations from across the country from amazing and awe-inspiring achievers with disabilities. The Awards are jointly organized by the FMCG giant CavinKare and the national cross disability right-based NGO Ability Foundation. People with disabilities are here recognized and honoured for their path-breaking triumphs.

CavinKare Ability Awards was introduced in the year 2003 to focus attention on the latent talents of people with disabilities, showcasing their achievements and challenging stereotypical perceptions. Over the years, the awards have become recognition by itself that aims to look beyond one’s own physical limitations and to celebrate the universality of human hood.

CavinKare Ability Awards comprises a total of four awards, which are given in recognition of personal achievements in the face of adversity and hardship. The awards salute the spirit of an individual who has fought against all odds and has scaled extraordinary heights.
These prestigious awards come in two categories:  CAVINKARE ABILITY Award for Eminence and the CAVINKARE ABILITY Mastery Awards.  Each person can be nominated for any one category of award only.
CAVINKARE ABILITY Award for Eminence: This is a single award given to only one person with disability, salutes the exemplary achievement of the person who has not only overcome great odds but has also contributed significantly to society by initiating an organisation of his/her own. The award carries a citation, a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakhs.

CAVINKARE ABILITY Mastery Awards: These are three awards given to three individuals with disability in recognition of their extraordinary achievement in any field of their choice – be it arts, film, medicine, science, industry, technology, education, community development, human rights, sports and more. The awards carry a citation, a trophy, and a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, each.
The call for nomination is now out! The last date for sending nomination forms is the 15th of November. Any Indian national with disability (as per the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995) and has done exceptional work in his/her chosen field is eligible to apply. The nominations go through a process of short-listing and on-site visits and later a discerning jury selects the recipients. Ability Foundation is a national cross disability organisation established in 1995 to strive for inclusion, empowerment and mainstreaming of persons with disabilities. Headquartered in Chennai, Ability Foundation is involved in a wide range of activities, that include publishing, media, education, employment and employment related training, advocacy, law & public policy and human rights.
