Rural IT Quiz program

Bangalore, 01 September, 2016: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services, consulting and business solutions firm and the Department of IT, BT, Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka is organizing the Rural IT Quiz program across six States in India for school students from class 8 to 12. The Rural IT Quiz aims at enhancing IT awareness and underlines the importance of technology among rural students, besides keeping them abreast of the latest developments in the world of technology. 

The quiz is being held in the states of Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. The Regional rounds of the quiz will be conducted in these states between September and November 2016.

Manjula, Principal Secretary, Department of IT, BT, Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka, said “It is encouraging to see the support of other State Governments to the Rural IT Quiz program. The large participation of students across all the six States indicates the popularity of the quiz. By participating in the national level program, students in smaller towns can get a better exposure to the advances in technology.”

The quiz is a great attempt in providing technology awareness to the students of smaller towns and enhance their learning in an environment outside the classroom. In Karnataka the State Level rounds will be held on September 14 and District Level on September 24, 2016. The Zonal Level Quiz will be conducted at 3 locations viz: Dharwad on October 18, Mysore on October 20 and Tumkur on October 22. The Tumkur Zonal finals will be followed by the Karnataka State Finals in Tumkur on October 22.

The National Finals of Rural IT Quiz will be held at Bangalore on 28th November as part of “BangaloreIT.biz 2016” hosted by the Department of IT, BT, Science and Technology.

School students from classes 8 to 12 can participate free of cost in the quiz contest. Students of Schools/PU Colleges in the City Corporation limits of Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Bellary, Davangere, Hubli-Dharwad, Belgaum & Gulbarga cities are not eligible to participate in the quiz. All the Regional winners and runners-up will receive TCS education scholarship of Rs 10,000 and Rs 7000/- respectively. The National winners will receive Rs 1,00,000/-  and runners-up Rs 50,000, besides other attractive prizes from TCS.



Subject: The quiz will focus on application of technology across various sectors and aspects such as: the technology environment, the business, its people, new trends and legends. World of internet and unique websites, IT buzzwords, acronyms, IT personalia – international & national, communications companies, software products and history of IT. Also areas where IT has made an impact - education, entertainment, books, multimedia, music, movies, internet, banking, advertising, sports, gaming, social networking and world of mobiles. Students are also advised to browse IT companies websites eg:  www.tcs.com, etc.



About Rural IT Quiz

The Rural IT Quiz is an initiative by Tata Consultancy Services in partnership with the  Department of IT, BT, Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka. The program started in the year 2000 and has reached over 13 million students till date. The quiz has earned an entry in the Limca Book of Records as the first IT Quiz for rural students in India. The Rural IT Quiz which had a successful run in Karnataka for over a decade, has expanded its footprint to other States - Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh besides Karnataka since 2011.
