Do Avocado Pits Keep Guacamole Green

The answer is NO!!. Many people believe leaving the avocado seed in the middle of a bowl of guacamole will keep it bright green. This has been a myth for a very long time.
The culprit behind brown guacamole is the oxidization. Reducing exposure of the surface area to air will prevent browning of the guacamole. The pit in the middle of the bowl of guacamole helps to keep the guacamole greener by reducing exposure to the air.
You could substitute the avocado pit with anything like a boiled egg, sliced vegetables, or a piece of bread for the same effect. One can cover the whole thing with wax paper so that the paper is pressed against the surface of the guacamole this will help reduce oxidization.
