TDD lighting the Dreams of Digital Consumers for a better tomorrow

LTE TDD India Summit Highlights

New Delhi, 11th August 2016:  The LTE TDD Summit organized by Huawei in association with COAI and in partnership with GTI was attended by 100+ participants including GTI, GSMA、COAI、Idea、RCOM and other leading operators in the country . This summit themed “ Enabling ROADS experience “ provided the opportunity to discuss and exchange ideas; also outline the MBB strategy in India to derive the most benefit from LTE TDD as Technology strategy model. Dr. Simon, VP – Solutions Sales & Member of Huawei India Management team, addressed the Industry focusing  on the importance of LTE in as a technology platform for driving future ICT industry where it will increasingly contribute towards creating better connected socities.

The World of technology is changing at pace which requires the ICT players to adapt or transform their ecosystem to serve customers at a same or a more aggressive pace. In India also Telecom service providers are fully transforming their networks to become Digital Service Providers. The Telecom ecosystem in India has been very busy in migrating their networks from Voice Driven to Data driven with more and more digitalization. The Digitalization of services will demand capacity in the networks to drive digital services demand of customers, which will stress the networks to serve larger capacities; thereby creating the need for TDD enabled networks.

The Summit in depth discussed how TDD along with FDD in the India telecom ecosystem can really enable telecoms service providers in India and provide an edge in today’s rapidly converging markets with more and more data being consumed by individual customer. Globally also operators have adopted the same strategy to run their Data Networks. With India Government gearing towards a mega auction once more near September 2016, where gaining an edge in spectrum bandwidth would really help move operators ahead in the game. Hence, it is a right time to discuss the benefits and how the convergence of these 2 technology options can truly contribute towards the vision of MBB strategy for 2020, which most operators around the globe have already stepped forward, With today’s increasing share of data revenues as part of the overall revenues for service providers and also increasing trends of Digital era within the country, it is imperative that ICT Vendors like Huawei & Service Providers like Bharti, Vodafone and other leading operators who are technology enablers of society, think towards creating best experience networks in our markets.

Eminent Speakers from across the Industry had participated in the summit and shared their opinions through presentations & Panel discussions.

GTI Steering Committee Member,Mr. Tetsuzo (Ted) Matsumoto shared that the “ global  TDD ecosystem has matured , introduced how gradual transformation from voice to data is imperative across all geographies, and how operators want Achieve Higher Data ARPU by providing differential Data Services experience. Larger 4G (TD-LTE) Deployment will help service providers achieve much higher customer satisfaction and much higher Spectral Efficiency.”He also shared the successful story of SoftBank and CMCC。

Mr. Veni Shone, President of TDD Product Line of Huawei stated that  “high bandwidth applications such as video, AR/VR which pushes the consumer into a life which is; anytime anywhere connected (which in turn would create data explosion in the carriers networks)  , can be truly enabled by use of TDD as a technology option for the capacity building in the networks. Currently Data services are growing rapidly in India, where data traffic per user is on an average increasing at 31% every year. According to the public sources, DoU is 26GB during Rjio’s  soft launch which indicate the traffic demands is huge in India market and the acquisition of high-end value users will be the core strategy to operators. In order to get more high-end users, to satisfy the growing requirement of MBB, operators will be committed to building a good experience, high efficiency, evolutional network. The upcoming spectrum auction will be the key opportunity for future planning, Huawei as the TDD industry leader has provided competitive, future – oriented evolutional TDD solution help operators to build  a high efficiency network to build best user experience” He also added huawei has a range of TDD solutions  including multi-antennas  enhancing coverage  and enlarging capacity,  single radio module covering full band to support  up to 4CC, 6 sectors solution which improve cell capacity up to 75%. and TDD solutions support CIOT, smooth evolution to 5G.”

Mr. Vikram Tiwathia, Deputy Director General COAI, said: “ IMT 2020 will be bringing a diverse range of opportunities & challenges to the Indian market with traffic growing rapidly and still there exists large gap in broadband coverage and services in India, TDD 2.3G can work as a golden capacity layer in urban areas, and TDD in 2.3GHz+2.6GHz , with carrier aggregation can improve the user experience in hotspot places. The good news is that most of the new smartphones and devices in India support LTE TDD spectrum options. In terms of pricing dynamics of the device ecosystem development the affordability has improved with a range of LTE devices that are now available at INR 3800 ($57) levels. This will facilitate the urgent requirement to enhance the speed of broadband deployments and needs to be better addressed by the market for more aggressive development of the data market in India.”

Mr. Sandeep Karanwal, Head of India, GSMA , shared the global MBB trends and the migrations path of 3G to 4G and stated that the coming auction will active the TDD network building , and will trigger the migration of users to 4G for better user experience.

Huawei India Management – Dr. Simon felicitating Mr. Tetsuzo, GTI Steering Committee Member

Summit showcased very insightful demos with detailed insights into how TDD+FDD as a Technology Strategy can really boost digital user experience for service providers. Huawei also truly believes that it can really partner with Indian Service Providers in making this migration a smooth one.
